Digital legacy questions
Common questions about setting up a digital dead man's switch.
Is this legally binding? Does it replace a will?
No. Countdown Trigger delivers messages — it does not transfer assets, property, or legal rights. It's a communication tool, not a legal document. We recommend using it alongside a proper will and estate plan.
What if I'm just on vacation and forget to check in?
With a 30-day interval, you have a full month between check-ins. If you're worried about a long trip, check in before you leave or adjust the interval. You can also pause the countdown temporarily.
How secure are my messages?
Messages are encrypted at rest and transmitted over TLS. Your messages are only delivered when your countdown expires. We cannot read your message content.
Can I send messages to multiple people?
Yes. You can add multiple email recipients to a single countdown, or create separate countdowns with different messages for different people.
What happens if Countdown Trigger shuts down?
We'd give 90 days notice and trigger all active countdowns so your messages are delivered. Your data is yours — you can export it at any time from your account settings.
Can I test it without actually sending messages?
Yes. You can view exactly what your recipients would receive before activating your countdown. You control when it goes live.
