What this message is, and what it is not

What it is

Someone you know set up a check-in with us. They chose how often they would check in, wrote a message, and named you as the person to tell if they ever went quiet. They did not check in on time, so the message they wrote for you was sent. The name at the top of the message is theirs, and the time in it is in their local time zone.

What to do now

1. Try to reach them directly. Call or text the number in the message, or reply to the email. Replies go to them, not to us. Most missed check-ins are a dead phone, a lost signal, or a forgotten reminder.
2. If you cannot reach them and believe they may be in danger, contact your local emergency services. In the United States that is 911. Tell them what you know: when you last heard from the person, where they said they would be, and what their message says.
3. Read their message. It is the thing they most wanted you to have if this moment came. Anything they wrote about where they were going or who to call is more useful than anything we can tell you.

What it is not

Countdown Trigger is an automated check-in service, not an emergency service. We do not track anyone's location, we cannot confirm whether the person is safe, and no one here is monitoring this message. The only thing we know is that a check-in was expected and did not arrive.

Why you

The person who set this up typed your address or number themselves. We never send these messages to anyone the sender did not choose.

If you do not want these messages

For text messages, reply STOP and that number will not be messaged again. For email, ask the sender to remove you; they can do it from their account in a few seconds.
